Nothing beats vinyl. In order to copy the vinyl onto the CD you have to square the waveform. That means you're missing something. 😊

Had this model for years and never took time to learn how to use it. Hopefully I can now record all our old VHS home videos on to DVD. Thanks so much.

The VTR (video tape recording) was invented by Ampex in 1956. It used 2 inch tape but it wasn’t “cassette” based”, it was an open reel (reel to reel) format. The first time tape was placed into any sort of cassette shell was in 1969 when Sony developed a single prototype of a cassette system which had two reels of 3/4 inch tape placed inside a cassette system it called “U-matic”. They didn’t bring the product to market until 2 years later in 1971. This was the first cassette based video recording system. Hence the first “VCR”, a phrase which would not be coined until Phillips released a rival system it called “Video Cassette Recording” (VCR) in 1972. The cassettes were unlike later cassette based systems in that the two spools (the playback, and take up spools) were stacked on top of each other, not side by side, so were square, and very thick due to the need to hold two stacked spools. The first VCR to use a recognisable tape based system where the two spools were side by side (like a giant audio compact cassette tape) was Sony with Betamax in 1975, followed just one year after in 1976 by JVC/Matsushita with the rival VHS system an finally again Philips with the Video 2000 system in 1979.

I still use my hi-fi VHS player to play recordings of my vinyl albums. The vinyl albums get played once (as I record them to high-five VHS), and then they go back in their dust cover, totally protected, and rarely seeing a stylus again. You cannot only fit both sides of an album on one cassette tape, but you can also record multiple albums on one tape.

I've always wondered why the cd players have an INDEX [always has 1] ,yet it doesn't have any function.can you explain WHY? They could have made it the TRACK and do away with the numbers on the screen. 2/Another problem is CD players with a COAXIAL output, instead of using the RCA outputs to connect to your Amplifier[if it has a input],I'd like to know whether it's worth getting an amplifier with an OPTICAL input. Is there a difference in sound quality by the way? Greetings from Greece.
